Our Volunteer Congregational Music Groups

KoleinuMusic at Am Shalom small*, formerly known as The Am Shalom Adult Choir, started shortly after Am Shalom’s formation in 1972. Over the years, the choir has sung at Shabbat and High Holy Days services. In addition, this group has had the pleasure of performing with many renowned Jewish composers/performers: Debbie Friedman, Bonia Shur, Craig Taubman, Julie Silver, Samuel Adler, Danny Maseng. Koleinu is featured on Jewish Music Heritage Shabbat (JMHS), a series of three Shabbats throughout the year that seek to expose and explore the ever-evolving modes of worship and musical expression within the prayer experience.

Ruach Choir*, our youth choir, sings at High Holy Day Family services, and at services throughout the school year. The Ruach Choir is composed of students in the 2nd–6th grades. Generally, rehearsals are twice a month at 9:00 am before Religious School on Sundays.

Shir Chadash*, our post B’nai Mitzvah jam band, plays at High Holy Day Family and Teen services, and at various Shabbat services. The musicians act as Religious School Madrichim, and meet on Sundays throughout the school year, accompanying the Ruach Choir, t’filah, and visiting classrooms. Generally, rehearsals are twice a month at 8:30 am before Religious School on Sundays.
