  • All donations will be acknowledged in our newsletter. If you do not want your donation to be listed, please directly notify the Am Shalom office at 847.835.4800.
  • Except where otherwise noted, $18.00 (chai) is the suggested minimum donation. Beautiful acknowledgment cards will be sent for all contributions.

Fund Descriptions

Am Shalom Israel Tzedakah Fund: Initiated October 9, 2023, this fund provides immediate, direct help to Israeli soldiers, soldiers' families, reservists and civilians 

Clergy Discretionary Fund is used by Am Shalom clergy to help those in need.

Courtyard Brick (Large): Have a large sized inscribed brick placed in our beautiful courtyard.  Brick size is 5" x 7".

Courtyard Brick (Jumbo): Have a jumbo sized inscribed brick placed in our beautiful courtyard.  Brick size is 7" x 9".

Dan and Karen Lee Library and Technology Fund: Maintains our library and technology facilities and provides funds to expand the collection.

The Ed Alpert Social Action Fund provides support to social action programming. The funding supports individuals and families in need both within our congregation and the greater Chicago community.

Education Fund: The Education Fund supports a variety of enriching and meaningful learning opportunities for our congregation and community. Additionally, the fund offers scholarships for our youth for OSRUI summer camp and Israel travel experiences. Thank you for your gift.

Endowment Fund: Insures the future fiscal security of the congregation. (All undesignated contributions will go into this fund).

Fanchon Simons' Feeding the Hungry Fund: One Sunday every month, volunteers gather at Am Shalom to pack and deliver hundreds of lunches through the Fanchon Simons Feeing the Hungry program. Contributions to the Fanchon Simons Helping the Hungry Fund support the purchase of food and other items needed for the monthly program.

General Fund: To assist with the daily operations of the congregation.

Glencoe Community Garden Fund: The Glencoe Community Garden, a community-wide service project for people of all ages and abilities, was established by Am Shalom in honor of its 40th anniversary in Spring 2012. It is a sustainable, organic-practicing, food-producing mini-farm and garden. Its 'Seeds of Goodness' harvest is donated to local food kitchens, pantries and other charitable organizations. The Judi Gordon Memorial Fund was created in memory of our beloved president. 

Ken Smith Music Fund: Helps support special music programs.

Memorial Book Fund: For contributions to Am Shalom in keeping with the hallowed Jewish tradition which associates acts of charity (mitzvot) with honoring the memory of the departed. 

Pattis Family Education Fund: The fund enhances learning opportunities at Am Shalom.

Prayer Book Fund: Dedicate a copy of our Shabbat prayer book, Mishkan T’filah. Book plate(s) will be created for each book dedicated.

Rabbi Kudan Torah Fund: Funds annual Scholar-In-Residence program in honor of Founding Rabbi, Harold Kudan.

Richard Wolff Human Needs Fund: The Richard Wolff Human Needs Fund provides assistance in case of need for individuals within our congregation and emergency situations outside our congregation.

Sanctuary Memorial Plaque: Create a lasting memorial for a loved one by adding a lovely Jerusalem stone plaque to the memorial boards in our sanctuary.

Sandra Mayer Fund: The Sandra Mayer Fund supports those in need. The fund supports charitable organizations that help people as well as individuals in need.

Schur Young Children's Library Fund: This fund was established in honor of Jean Schur, a beloved 2nd grade teacher who taught at Am Shalom for 40 years. The Schur Young Children's Library Fund provides funds to purchase children's books for our library's collection.

Thanksgiving Feeding the Hungry Fund: Every year, Am Shalom partners with area congregations to provide a warm Thanksgiving meal for people in need - for many, it's the only holiday meal they will have.
